Miniature Scale models
These models are hand made to a 1:12 scale. This means that a spinning wheel that is 2 foot high in real life becomes a 2 inch high scale model.
All of the following spinning wheels shown below have parts that turn like the real items. It is relatively easy to make a model that is glued together solid, it is a real challenge to make one that has rotating parts and is still strong enough to be handled.
These models are all made of wood, brass and steel parts, no plastic. While I have made them sturdy, they are not TOYS.
On this page you will find models of the Ashford type spinning wheel, a Louet type spinning wheel, and an old Great Wheel type.
Following them is a scale model floor loom that is 4 inches wide, 3 inches high and 3 inches deep, with working, removable heddles, swinging beater bar with reed, moveable back beam, and turning drum with working release lever.
And last is a model Navajo floor loom, 5 inches high and 3 1/2 inches wide.

Notice the size of the bobbin in relation to the pencil eraser, and that the bobbin is a free floating item on the flyer shaft. The belt driven flyer turns freely in it's bearings when the flywheel is turned with your finger. The flexible joint between the pitman rod and the pedal is too small to see in the picture, but flexes as the pedal moves up and down in exactly the same way as the full sized one does.
I have made a limited number of these models and offer them at $40.00 each. Sold out.

Notice that the flyer is not connected to the tiny bobbin, and that the flyer turns with the shaft just like the full sized ones do.
I have made a limited number of these models and offer them at $30.00 ea.Sold out.

This model is 5 1/4 inches high and 5 inches long. The majority of this model is made from walnut wood. Notice that there is a functioning belt adjuster, yarn disk on the spindle, high speed pulley and tiny heart cut-out. I have actually spun very fine yarn off of the point on one of these models.
I have made a Very Limited quantity of these and offer them at $60.00 each. Sold out.

Made of hard Maple, this scale model loom is actually capable of being warped. The back drum ratchet is fully functional, the removable heddle frames have heddle eyes, the treadles work, and the beater bar with reed swings. If I can figure out a way to put a handle on the take-up reel ratchet, the loom could be woven on.
I make these three at a time, and am currently Sold out.. When they are available again, they will be priced at $200.00 each.

This simple Navajo loom, assembled with tiny bolts and screws, is 5 inches high and made of Birch. I have only a few left, and they are priced at $20.00 each. Several styles of "weaving" are available. Click here to see the selection. Sold out.
