The images are NOT laser cut!
No, the images on my spindles are NOT laser cut. Yes, I cut them by hand on a scroll saw. No, there is no computer involved in the cutting process. Yes, I look through a large magnifying lens when I do the cutting
I cut each spindle's image by hand on a scroll saw.
A scroll saw is a machine that rapidly moves a very fine blade up and down. The bottom and top of the blade are secured to the moving arms and the blade is under quite a bit of tension. | |
The upper end of the blade can be easily released so the blade can be threaded into a 'starter' hole. Of course, intricate images require the blade to be removed and attached many, many times before the image is finished. |
As you can see above, I use a large fluorescent magnifying lens to be able to cut the kind of detail that you see in the "Flowers" image (a dime is included as a size reference).
Below is a finished "Flowers" (rim style) spindle. A quarter is included in the picture for size comparison.
Just remember.... No, the images on my spindles are NOT laser cut. Yes, I cut them by hand on a scroll saw. No, there is no computer involved in the cutting process. Yes, I look through a large magnifying lens when I do the cutting.
